    Indeed, let's hope that not too much of it gets paved over or covered with solar panels.

    Déjà vu || Hammer 2011

    I was curious as to how Hamilton would appear to me after being away for over two years. It was much how I remembered it. I thought it might seem smaller and shittier after living in Ottawa, but my visit confirmed my belief that Hamilton is much cooler than Ottawa. Hamilton has more food...

    Just temporarily, my visit was too short and I didn't get to see everything I wanted.

    Déjà vu || Hammer 2011

    There was an article about it in the Spec recently: http://www.thespec.com/news/local/article/582738--treasure-trove-in-treble-hall According to the article, it won't be residential, but some kind of community space, as was its original purpose. In any case, the building seems to be in good...

    Déjà vu || Hammer 2011

    It's the old Federal Building on Main St. (right near Hess Village). Years ago, Darko Vranich bought it for a condo conversion. Like most of Vranich's projects, that never happened, now he's tearing it down for some vague condo proposal. I assume it'll be another parking lot.

    Port Lambton, Ontario

    Haha, that was a drive-by shot People in that area are heavily influenced by the US. Detroit media completely dominates. When I went to university, I often found myself not getting a lot of references to Canadian culture, especially television and music. The Lambton-Kent-Essex area has a...

    Port Lambton, Ontario

    Port Lambton, Ontario Port Lambton (pop. 1000) is located on the St. Clair River just outside Wallaceburg. It's known for its relaxed atmosphere, baseball and fun-filled summers swimming and boating in the river. The surrounding area is prime agricultural land, producing a wide variety of...

    More Chicago

    We stayed right downtown at Michigan and E. Wacker. Our trip was short, only three days, otherwise I would have done some neighbourhood tours. We drove from Ottawa back to our hometown, Port Lambton, to visit family for a week. It's close to Port Huron so we took the Amtrak to Chicago and...

    Chicago, IL

    There are just some real structural differences between Canadian and US cities. One is the levels of government and their various jurisdictions and powers of taxation here in Canada. Ottawa is really the only Canadian city that consistently gets gobs of money thrown at it purely for aesthetics...

    Chicago, IL

    That's a good way to describe it. I usually try for a neighbourhood tour when I visit a city, but I just couldn't get past the immensity of Chicago's skyscrapers and did most of my photography downtown.

    Chicago, IL

    Perhaps that's what my photos portray, but it would be extremely unfair to portray downtown Chicago as merely a financial district. There are endless things to do down there. There is attention to detail everywhere, the public spaces are well designed and inviting and that is the case...

    Chicago, IL

    Chicago is really an amazing city. It's huge, it's vibrant, it has great architecture, great food, tons of things to do. Without a doubt world class and I highly recommend a visit to anyone on this site. LI Mike: Wow, you nailed it! I took the Amtrak from Port Huron, MI to Chicago. Only...
