Another large tower coming down in New York.

To provide a bit of commentary on Ed's shots above, it appears that the plan in place here is to strip this 1950s Modernist office tower down to it's steel skeleton, then add many new floors and that Norman Foster wow factor we all love. Pretty interesting stuff, though always sad to see that Mad Men-type building stock bite the dust

The exact plan is to demolish as much as 74.9% of the building. The site's zoning is now LESS than the square footage of the current building. If they preserve at least 25% of the structure, the project is grandfathered in under the larger possible floor space. The new design rearranges the floor space to higher levels and increases many of the ceiling heights. It will be topped by a signature Wolverine Claw crown to reach about 900 feet.

They are visibly demolishing the top of the building as it has noticeably reduced in height.
