Emily Carr University will be eventually be fully relocating to 555 Great Northern Way. They've already got the Centre for Digital Media just to the east, but the development here looks to be the focal point of the new campus.

The first building will be about 280,000 sq ft, 24m and 4 storeys, by Diamond and Schmitt Architects. Vancouver Sun article on the new campus.

Planning docs here, and high-res render in this pdf.

Emily Carr University is a post-secondary arts school, but this new building is at the Great Northern Way Campus, which is a consortium of Emily Carr, BCIT, UBC and Simon Fraser University.

Opening today:
At about 11 a.m. on Sept. 5, after years of planning and construction, it will finally be official: a ribbon-cutting will open the new $122.6-million Emily Carr University of Art + Design.

The art school, located since 1980 on Granville Island, has moved to a purpose-built building by Great Northern Way on the former industrial site of Finning International between Main and Clark.

I certainly don't think Emily Carr when I see this building. Better get some serious trees happening to give it some sort of Carr feel.

Thanks for the photos! There's supposed to be a large totem pole going where that circular grassy knoll is. Expected to go in next year I read.
