Houston | InterContinental Hotel and Apartments
Plans are well underway for a luxury hotel housed in the heart of the Texas Medical Center.
Houston-based Medistar Corp. and TRC Capital Partners, an affiliate of The Redstone Cos. of Houston, have entered a joint venture partnership to develop a 357-room hotel at 6750 Main Street, in the central portion of the Texas Medical Center. The hotel will stand at 21 stories and include 20,000 to 25,000 square feet of office and meeting space. Restaurants will occupy the hotel's first floor.
Details of the hotel branding weren't disclosed, but the brand is a "nationally and internationally known hotel," said Kelly Lindig, vice president of development and acquisitions at Medistar.
Lindig said groundbreaking should kick off at the beginning of the second quarter, and the hotel should be complete in the second quarter of 2018.
A luxury, 375-unit apartment complex is coming to the Medical Center, and it's sharing its real estate with another high-profile project in the area.
Houston-based Greystar is partnering with Houston-based Medistar Corp. to develop a luxury apartment complex on the same acreage of land as Medistar's 357-room hotel at 6750 Main Street, in the central portion of the Texas Medical Center.
Construction should kick off in the next 60 days, and the project should deliver in the first quarter of 2018, said David Reid, Greystar' senior managing director of development. Greystar is the general partner and the developer. Medistar is the limited partnership. Atlanta-based The Preston Partnership is the architect, Hoar Construction was tapped as the general contractor. The project's cost wasn't disclosed.
The hotel portion of a two-in-one hotel and apartment development in the Texas Medical Center will be anIntercontinental-branded hotel, which speaks to the ethnic and geographic diversity of the medical center's clientele, the hotel's developers told the Houston Business Journal.
U.K.-based InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (NYSE: IHG) will open its 21-story, 353-room Intercontinental Houston Medical Center in late 2018. The hotel, which will share a lobby with a Greystar apartment development dubbed Latitude Med Center, will include 11,800 square feet of meeting space, a 7,800-square-foot ballroom and more. The joint apartment and hotel project, located at 6750 Main St., is being developed by Houston-based Medistar Corp. and TRC Capital Partners.
