A SAMU BUILDING IS COMINGBE PART OF THE MOVEMENT
MacEwan is growing.

Over the past few years, MacEwan University’s campuses have been centralizing into a single, all-encompassing downtown location. With this centralization has come more programs and more people.

The buildings on MacEwan’s downtown campus can’t serve the needs of our student population: there’s just not enough space. If you’ve ever tried to find a spot to study at lunch, you’ll know what we mean.

The Students' Association of MacEwan University wants to open a new building on campus, dedicated to students: it’ll have space for clubs; new food places that have fresh, local food; a 24-hour study space; and plenty of electrical outlets for laptops—maybe even the ones with the USB plugs built right in.

SAMU Breaks Ground on New Student Building
by Shauntae on Apr 7th, 2017

SAMU Continues to Build Momentum…
A dream that has been almost a decade in the making making is finally coming true! It started with mere conversations years ago – What if SAMU had its own building? Fast forward to today, and SAMU, in partnership with MacEwan University, is thrilled to announce that these conversations have turned into reality and we are getting a new home! Complete with more study space, more space clubs, food options and more room for your favourite programs and services, the new student building is going to built just east of 109th street and is slated to open in Fall 2019.

Five years ago, SAMU recognized that in order to reach our full potential and offer students more support, we needed our own space. With student needs at the forefront, SAMU’s student leaders moved ahead with the project. In October of 2015 we held a building referendum, which saw students voting overwhelmingly in favour of the new building. This is an exciting venture for both SAMU and MacEwan as we are able to grow with the downtown core and offer our students a greater voice on campus.

This new building will mean room for SAMU to expand our programs and services and create more awareness for what we have to offer students. For students, this will mean they have their own space on campus and a legacy to leave behind. We look forward to the new building and all the exciting opportunities it’s going to bring!
