Vancouver developer Bosa Properties and Beijing-based architects Büro Ole Scheeren are coming together to bring a dramatic new 51-storey condominium to downtown Vancouver's west end. 1500 West Georgia, already being compared to the blocks of a Jenga game, features a series of protruding boxes designed to maximize horizontal space in an increasingly vertical and dense urban environment.

If approved, the tower will rise from the corner of West Georgia and Nicola Streets, where a water feature for the modernist office complex Crown Life Place currently sits. The building's small footprint allows the water feature to be retained and expanded next to a reimagined public plaza.

Electricity for the two commercial floors at ground level will be provided by rooftop solar panels, an element of the proposal which will help the building achieve LEED Platinum certification.

Climbing 152 metres, the tower is designed to act as a beacon when approaching the city from the North Shore and Stanley Park. 1500 West Georgia joins Beijing's CCTV Headquarters, Kuala Lumpur's Angkasa Raya and Singapore's DUO in Scheeren's impressive recent portfolio.
