Construction is well under way at the site of Ivanhoe Cambridge, The Levy Organization and Hines' 50-storey River Point development at 444 West Lake Street on the west bank of the Chicago River. The project's shoring and excavation phases commenced last summer, followed by the first upward construction of the building's concrete core in the fall. Since then, construction work has been progressing swiftly, and River Point's steel skeleton now stands approximately 35 storeys over the Chicago River, while the building's concrete core rises another five storeys above.
Designed by architects Pickard Chilton and Kendall / Heaton Associates, the approximately 1,050,000 rentable square foot building is expected to top off at 223 metres (732 feet) later this year, with completion tentatively scheduled for 2017.
A time-lapse video captured by OxBlue's construction webcam provides us with a view of the fast-rising office tower, showing everything from the building's preliminary below-grade work up to the site as it appears today.
The building will have plenty to offer tenants, including a 9,000-square foot 3-storey lobby, retail and amenities that include a restaurant, café, fitness center, building conference center, and secure bicycle parking. In addition, the building will front a new 1.5-acre public park and riverfront plaza with landscaping including native plants and trees.
