On the west side of the Chicago River between West Randolph and West Lake Streets, construction is progressing on O'Donnell Investment Company's 150 North Riverside, a 53-storey Goettsch Partners-designed office tower well on its way to an eventual height of 228 metres.
At the time of our last update in early October, the tower's core had reached a height of 20 floors, with the building's steel skeleton reaching the 11th floor. In the time since, the core has grown several more levels and is now approaching the 30-storey milestone, while steel stretches up to the 25th level. Despite all this growth, the most notable change since our October update is the start of installation of the tower's distinctive striated curtain wall cladding.
The reflective cladding's vertical fins add a textural element to the building's otherwise uniform exterior. This effect will be complemented by a series of lines running up the length of the tower's facades, punctuating the design's verticality.
Once completed in 2017, the new office building will feature a 1.5-acre park, and is aiming for LEED Gold Certification.
