Vancouver's high real estate prices are leading many residents to rent rather than buy a place to call home. However, the city's rental market has been stagnant for the past 40 years, with almost no new rental buildings constructed over this period. Thanks to developer Aquilini Group, the situation is beginning to improve for those looking for a brand new and modern apartment to live in. Built around the Rogers Arena, at the junction of the Yaletown, Gastown and False Creek neighbourhoods, a new mixed-used community is bringing new rental opportunities and density to the area.

Composed of three towers, the project is currently under construction with the first tower, Aquilini Centre West, delivered last summer. Phase two is now well underway at the south end of the site, nestled on a triangular site delimited by Griffiths Way, Pacific Boulevard and the Georgia Street Viaduct. It will consist of a 31-storey, 250-unit rental tower with five levels of underground parking and a mix of 1 bedroom, 1 bedroom + den, and 2 bedroom + den units similar to those of phase one, which also contains close to 9900 square metres of prime class A office space over nine floors.

A recent photo update on our Forum shows the progress achieved so far on Aquilini Centre South, now rising above street level. In the picture above, we see the tilted concrete pillars that will eventually support the tower emerging from the ground and standing several metres in the air. While some of these pillars are still wrapped in their formwork, the core of the tower is being formed at the centre of the site, with the cage emerging between pillars. As work progresses, it becomes easier to visualize the relatively small footprint of the building as well as its adjacency to the Georgia Street Viaduct.

As construction progresses over the next few months, the tower's curvy glass facade and balconies along Pacific Boulevard will begin to take shape. Inside, all units will feature engineered quartz countertops, 9.5-foot ceilings and a full appliance package. A rooftop patio will be accessible for all residents to enjoy the views over the city and surrounding natural landscapes. Aquilini Centre South is scheduled for completion in 2018, and will propose market rate rents in line with the high-end amenities it offers.
