The steel and glass structure of Brookfield Place is already making an impact on the Calgary skyline. Construction on the 56-storey east tower has passed the 30th floor, giving us a good luck at what will become Western Canada's tallest tower.

Located between 1st & 2nd Streets and 6th & 7th Avenues SW in the Albertan city's downtown core, the 247-metre tower has leased one million square feet to Cenovus Energy. Developed by Brookfield Office Properties with architecture by Arney Fender Katsalidis and Dialog, Brookfield Place will also include a west tower that stands at 42 storeys and 178 metres on land currently occupied by a parking garage. Taking up an entire city block, the towers will be joined by a 50,000-square-foot glass pavilion, retail and restaurants. The pavilion and associated public space will provide a connection to the +15, Calgary's extensive above-ground pedestrian walkway system.

Images captured by Surrealplaces on November 6 show the east tower in the context of the surrounding streetscape. They also depict the rounded corners of the building expanding as the tower moves skyward.

At 236 metres, The Bow is currently the tallest Canadian building outside of Toronto. Completed in 2012, the Foster + Partners semicircular office tower will enjoy that claim to fame until 2017, when the east tower of Brookfield Place officially opens.
