Another towering addition to the burgeoning Beltline skyline in Calgary is now receiving its finishing touches. The 35-storey Mark on 10th, a project by Qualex-Landmark, is nearly complete after celebrating its topping off in June of 2015.
Designed by BKDI Architects and Rafii Architects, the development houses 274 units in a tower accented by multicoloured spandrel panels. Inside, a large installation by famed Canadian artist Douglas Coupland will grace the lobby. The one- and two-bedroom suites will be finished with a variety of homey materials, including wide plank laminate flooring and expansive windows. Balconies allow residents to enjoy some fresh air while they gaze upon the growing Beltline neighbourhood.
The amenities are perhaps the primary feature of the project. A mezzanine lounge glazed in a gold hue protrudes from the tower just below the mechanical penthouse. A fully equipped fitness room at the rooftop level gives residents on lower floors the chance to look on their surroundings at a loftier height. At the same level, an outdoor seating area complete with a barbecue and fire pit sits adjacent to a bubbling hot tub. The ground floor commercial component helps animate the streetscape while a spacious garden perched above includes meandering pathways and plenty of shade.
The project is one of many recent investments the Vancouver-based Qualex-Landmark has made in Calgary. Their success with the Nova, Luna and Stella towers, all of which share a common podium, led them to other opportunities in the city. As residents begin to occupy Mark on 10th, excavation is progressing for Park Point South, which will ultimately climb to a comparable height.
As always, we'll be watching these skyline-altering projects closely. More images and information can be found in the Database file linked below. Want to get involved in the discussion? Check out the associated Forum thread or leave a comment at the bottom of this page.
