Work on the two-tower Drummond Condominiums in Downtown Montreal has now started, with heavy machinery digging about one floor below grade. Developed by local builder Samcon, the tallest 24-storey tower will be constructed first, followed by the shorter 22-floor sibling in the second phase. The architecture firms attached to the project are IBI Group and Martin Marcotte Beinhaker Architects.
Targeting "active professionals," standard units come with one or two bedrooms, with two penthouse units measuring in at 2,500 square feet. Each resident will enjoy nine-foot ceiling heights, a terrace or balcony, and access to a suite of amenities. A fully equipped gym spanning two levels in between the buildings is complemented by ground floor retail below. A rooftop terrace with a heated pool will crown both buildings. Lounging spaces and a barbecue area provide a place for residents to entertain their guests.
The rooftop terrace offers panoramic views of the surrounding area, which has become a hub for new development. Projects like Tour des Canadiens, Tour Deloitte and Roccabella are now adding a mix of new residential and office space to a city that had been sluggish on the development file. Most of these projects have been built within a few blocks of the Bell Centre, the home of the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens.
Forum contributor skahhigh recently paid a visit to the site and snapped some photos of the construction progress progress so far. Once complete, the first tower will offer 211 units followed by 190 more when the second building comes online.
