Architects opting for a more modern and soft look to their building typically see curtain wall and window wall glass as a viable choice of cladding material. Numerous other finishes, including precast concrete, can act as contrasting elements to this glass and provide visual solidity to a structure. Whereas standard concrete is poured and cured on location, precast concrete is cast offsite in a reusable mold, cured, then transported to the construction site. Similarly, precast stone utilizes a fine aggregate mixture to mimic the appearance of natural stone. Known for its strength, durability and overall lower lifetime costs, precast concrete is frequently used in a number of applications.

In building projects, precast can form the interior structural wall panels, columns, flooring, and stairs, as well as exterior modular pavers and planters. Most parking garages use precast for its ease of installation and varied colour options. Its absorptive properties are beneficial where noise needs to be blocked with sound walls, and precast's ability to prevent water leakage is key for underground piping and retaining wall applications.
