Just across the street from the 58-storey SLS Lux and the landmark Brickell CityCentre project, a twin-tower development promises to bring even more vitality to the vibrant Brickell neighbourhood in Miami. The curvaceous Brickell Heights is just one of several local developments being built by The Related Group and Arquitectonica.
The pair of 49- and 47-storey towers are rising from a common podium at Southwest 9th Street and South Miami Avenue. The fluid architectural expression of the development reflects Miami's tropical setting with expansive glass terraces in each residence. The David Rockwell-designed interiors implement original art installations, including the double-height lobby, which gives residents and visitors their first impression of the building. On the outside, a colourful mural by Fabian Burgos skins the podium, adding a cheery backdrop to the streetscape.
The 696 units will offer floor-to-ceiling tinted windows that maximize views of the skyline and Atlantic Ocean. Residents will be able to enjoy a unique host of amenities, including the luxurious Equinox Fitness Club and Spa, a 35,000-square-foot exercise space spanning three floors. The 3,500-square-foot SoulCycle studio also provides a dedicated space for indoor cycling. These amenities will be joined by two pool decks — one on the roof and another on the ninth floor terrace — plus an urban community garden, screening room, business centre, and children's club. About 35,000 square feet of floorspace has been set aside for office use.
The development replaces a former proposal for the site called The Premiere Towers. A casualty of the recession, the slightly shorter development featured two cylindrical forms. The current iteration is now well under construction. Cladding installation on the podium and tower reveals a navy blue glass finish, while the balcony undersides are also receiving their final treatment. The building is scheduled to open its doors in 2017.
