Competing with other builders to bring the best amenities to their inhabitants, residential developers are always finding ways to broaden the living experience offered. This is especially true in New York City, where purchasers have come to expect a certain level of luxury and diversity in their quarters. Now, there's a new kid on the block that rivals some of the top residential interiors in the city. Featuring the largest amenity spaces in Manhattan, Sky is a new rental tower by Moinian Group that rises over 60 storeys above the city's vibrant streets.

The 200-metre (656-foot) building is sited at 605 West 42nd Street at the nexus of Hell's Kitchen and the quickly changing Hudson Yards district. Featuring a design by Goldstein Hill & West Architects, with Rockwell Group handling the interiors, the glassy structure replaced a gas station and parking facility.

Sky hosts 1,174 studios, one- and two-bedroom units, 235 of which have been designated affordable. The impressive collection of amenities outdoes most of those found in recent New York developments. 'Life Time Athletic' is an exclusive member's club offering 70,000 square feet of amenities. A multilevel gym, Turkish bath, private park, basketball court, fitness centre, cafe, and indoor and outdoor pools are all designed to put the needs and desires of residents first.

The top penthouse units offer unparalleled views of the Empire State Building and Hudson River, while the base includes 20,000 square feet of retail. A vast collection of art lines the corridors and common spaces of the building, sprucing up the interiors even further with splashes of colour. Now completed after work was halted due to the recession of the late 2000's, Sky is a palpable reminder that the American economy has rebounded, and modern towers are once again making a positive contribution to the cityscape.
