New highrise developments continue to add new layers to the growing skyline of Calgary. A number of new developments are currently underway in the city's bustling core, including LaCaille Group's Vogue Condominiums at 914 6th Avenue. In recent months the 36-storey condominium tower by S2 Architecture has begun to make its mark on Calgary's skyline, and will grow even more prominent in the coming months.
The Art-Deco-inspired development rises from a tiered eight-storey podium clad in what appear to be precast concrete panels. These panels narrow into piers above the podium, which continue up the height of the tower before terminating at the tower's ornamental crown.
The Art Deco theme of the 232-unit development is best exemplified by the yet-to-be-built pinnacle, while the ground level will feature a massive arched window traversing the height of the podium's lower six-storey volume, framing the ground level residential entrance (pictured below) and creating a grand entrance to the building.
Once topped off later this year, the tower's roofline will stand 394 feet on the Calgary skyline, while the addition of a spire will bring the overall height up to a total of 410 feet or 125 metres. Construction of the development is currently slated for completion in 2017.
