We last checked in on construction progress at 165 West Superior Street in Chicago almost 5 months ago, when construction of the development's five-storey podium was underway. Since that update, the bKL Architecture-designed apartment tower has risen to a height of approximately 20 storeys. This is well on its way to an eventual height of 34 storeys and 109 metres (357 feet).

Developed by Magellan Development GroupMac Management and Parse Capital, the project will add 298 residential rental units to Chicago's River North neighbourhood. Replacing a former Howard Johnson Inn that was demolished last year to make way for construction, the project is expected to add life to West Superior and North LaSalle Streets with the addition of street-fronting retail spaces. The tower will be clad in a combination of three tones of masonry, glass handrails, and spandrel glass panels.

To lessen the impact of the 283,000-square-foot building's above-grade parking garage (housed within a portion of the podium), residential units will wrap around the garage, eliminating blank walls and the anti-pedestrian conditions often associated with above-grade parking.
