Once a heavy industrial area populated by factories, warehouses, and rail yards, Yaletown has become one of the most desirable neighbourhoods in Vancouver. It features an abundant supply of parkland that weaves throughout converted heritage buildings and residential highrises. The latest skyscraping project set to join this mature skyline is The Charleson, which is now peeking a few levels above ground.
Developed by Onni Group, the 43-storey tower includes some of the most spacious floor plans in a condominium development, with 100 units starting at 1,000 square feet and maxing out at 3,500 square feet. Because of the unit size, each floor will hold no more than three homes. Each suite will also come with its own open-air balcony and double-glazed windows to increase UV protection and insulation.
The development offers 11,500 square feet of amenities. Among them is a pool and hot tub deck, rooftop garden, children's play area, lounge and entertainment suite, and fully equipped exercise room. High efficiency heating and cooling throughout the building will contribute to the development's anticipated LEED Gold certification.
Designed by DIALOG, the building sits on a plot of land that is pierced by a protected view corridor, resulting in a mostly triangular floor plate. In construction photos posted by Forum contributor mcminsen, the tower's angled wall can be seen taking shape, while the podium begins to rise beside.
