With a height of 209 metres reached in October 2015, the Handel Architects-designed Millennium Tower is now the third tallest building in Boston. Situated in the city's Downtown Crossing district, the Millennium Partners MDA Associates-developed tower will offer a mix of 442 residential, office and retail spaces spread across 60 storeys. While the building is scheduled for completion later this year, it's exterior will soon be finished after the installation of the last blue-tinted curtain wall panels where the construction elevator used to be.
As seen in the picture below, only 11 levels remain to be sealed off from the elements, including the penthouse unit currently for sale at $37 million and the uppermost mechanical floors. While these aren't accessible to the public, these top levels are covered in a similar glazing to the residential portion in order to ensure continuity in the building's exterior appearance, whose glassy look contrasts highly with the area's historic brick edifices.
Fronting Washington Street — a busy commercial arterial at the heart of the city — the Millennium Tower will include a grocery store at its base. Upon delivery, it will become one of Boston's most exclusive residences, although the northeastern metropolis is currently in the midst of a major highrise construction boom bringing several hundred new high-end condominiums and rental units to the city.
