Dutch architectural practice OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture) has revealed plans for their first building in Tokyo. Envisioned by Shohei Shigematsu at OMA's New York City office, Toranomon Hills Station Tower forms one pillar of a three-building complex that will host a diverse mix of uses.

Mori Building is the developer behind the tower, which will contain hotel, office and retail divisions. The glass structure will include an elevated garden on the lower floors, which will link to a grand pedestrian boulevard. The development will also feature direct access to a new subway station on the Tokyo Metro's Hibiya Line.

The two other components in the complex, which will be designed by different architecture firms, will include a dedicated 36-storey office building and a 56-storey residential building. The ¥400 billion cluster of towers will be built around an existing highrise, the second tallest building in Tokyo, which was completed in 2014. Each building will be realized according to Mori's 'Vertical Garden City' philosophy, which seeks to capture different elements of the urban lifestyle.

While the first two towers are scheduled for completion in 2019, the OMA-designed Toranomon Hills Station Tower won't be delivered until 2022. Mori is hoping that the new subway station will be operational in time for the 2020 Summer Olympics.
