Construction on Western Canada’s soon-to-be tallest tower, the 251-metre Stantec Tower developed by WAM Development Group and Katz Group Properties, reached a milestone this weekend when the tower’s raft slab was poured. City Ambassador Daveography went down to the site to check it out and snap some photos.

Four pumps operated continuously over a period of about 11 hours to pour concrete over the rebar and form the slab.

Over 250 truck deliveries were needed to bring in the required 3,000 cubic metres of concrete in what was the largest continuous pour in the city’s history.

The three-metre-thick slab was poured on top of about 40 concrete piles, the deepest of which runs about 80 metres into the ground; a source at Stantec indicated that these may be the deepest ever built for an office tower in North America.
