Southport was once the central hub for culture and entertainment in the Gold Coast. While that label has mostly moved to Surfer's Paradise, the subject of many tourist and highrise-filled postcard images, Southport remains a lively destination for shopping and recreation. The resilience of this suburb is clearly evident in its cityscape. Tourist-driven development is reshaping the public realm, including a plot of land on Brighton Parade. There, Southport's newest building is also its tallest, boasting 55 storeys of luxury apartments.

Developed by Meriton, 13 retail outlets in a five-storey podium provide grocery, restaurant, and cafe services to residents of Sundale Apartments and the public. Occupants will have access to an outdoor pool, sundeck, and landscaped gardens placed on the podium rooftop. On the inside, resort-style facilities include a heated swimming pool, large gymnasium, and a childcare centre.

The over 500 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments within the DBI Architects-designed building have been arranged to showcase views of the ocean, marina, and the cluster of buildings dotting the landscape. They will be equipped with stainless steel appliances, glass kitchen backsplashes, and floor-to-ceiling windows that maximize natural light. Their living experience is enhanced by numerous neighbourhood recreational and entertainment facilities, like the Broadwater Parklands, Jupiter Casino, and the new Chinatown precinct. Getting around is easy, with the recently opened G:link providing light rail service between Gold Coast University Hospital and the suburb of Broadbeach.

As the Gold Coast's real estate market flourishes, its cultural sector is receiving a boost as well by hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games. With the exterior of Sundale Apartments mostly complete, buyers can soon expect to move into their homes and be thrust into the action when the sporting events hits the city in two years' time.
