A two-tower student residence development at 97 Elizabeth Street in Brisbane has been granted planning approval, paving the way for construction to begin in July. To be operated by Student One, the $150 million AUD project is joining two other accommodation residences by the company in the city centre, bringing their portfolio to 2,400 beds by 2019.

The 30,000-square-metre development will be comprised of a 31-storey tower on Charlotte Street and a shorter 24-storey building on Elizabeth Street. Both Arkhefield Architects-designed towers will rise from a large common podium. The 458 apartments located in the complex are expected to provide accommodations for approximately 1,000 domestic and international students. The proposed unit composition is broken down into a range of studios, two-, three-, four-, five-, and six-bedroom apartments. All rooms will be fully-furnished and equipped with air conditioning.

For studying and tweeting outside your unit, both buildings will offer free high-speed wireless internet. There will also be a broad selection of amenities available to students, including private study areas and social spaces, a games room, fitness centre, and media room. A laneway piercing the site will contain up to 1,200 square metres of space for food and dining establishments, ensuring quick snacks and enriched meals are within arm's reach.

As construction commences on the project in July, Student One will be celebrating the opening of their first residence, when a 687-bed complex welcomes tenants on Adelaide Street. Another project, this time on Wharf Street, is slated for a 2018 opening. When completed, the 41-storey development will be one of the tallest student residence buildings in the world.
