A 60-storey condo in Vancouver is generally unheard of due to the city's strong convictions towards preserving their natural views, but the builders of Burrard Place have gained the approval to build just that. The builders, Reliance Properties, The Jim Pattison Group, and Magnum Ltd. along with the architects from IBI Group and Bing Thom Architects have gained approval for a 60-storey luxury residential building that will be the tallest residential-only building in Vancouver. It will also feature a three-storey office building including a flagship Jim Pattison Downtown Toyota dealership.

The visionaries of this luxury condo development are dreaming big, planning to include a multitude of high-end amenities such as a fitness centre, a spa, wine lockers, a private chef, a pool, music rooms, a study centre, a terrace with a barbecue fire pit, and even a butler concierge.

Aimed at heavy hitters in the city and abroad, the selling prices of Burrard Place condo units were reflective of the costly Vancouver real-estate market. The prices ranged from around $400,000 CAD for a 450-square-foot unit to more than $20 million for a two-storey, 4,500-square-foot penthouse. This didn't affect sales though, as all the condo units were sold out prior to construction. The building is currently under construction and its targeted completion date is 2019.

Many Vancouverites have long awaited the arrival of taller buildings in the city, as the current skyline is renowned as a chameleon-esque skyline due to its lack of tall statement buildings. It even passed for Korea in the Seth Rogen and James Franco film, The Interview (2014).

City officials often wrestle with the idea of negating some of the natural view cones that prevent highrise buildings being built in the city. As a result, taller buildings such as the 63-storey Trump Tower Vancouver are being constructed in the city's downtown core.
