Recent photos from our Forum reveal the state of progress at 56 Leonard Street, the 57-storey, Hines-developed, Herzog & de Meuron Architekten-designed, residential tower now under construction in the heart of New York's Tribeca neighbourhood in Lower Manhattan. With most of the exterior glass cladding now installed, the distinct asymetrical series of cantilevered units and balconies have now taken shape, and the full effect of the tower's unique silhouette is now clearly visible on the Manhattan skyline.

Featuring 145 luxury units, including 10 penthouses ranging from 340-590 square metres, and a series of one- to five-bedroom townhouse units each with a different layout, the distinct design of the tower will provide each resident with a unique floorplan and view.

Rising high above the surrounding nineteenth-century architecture of Tribeca, an area known for its cobblestone streets, converted warehouses, and apartments blocks, 56 Leonard Street stands out amid a skyline full of tall towers and highrises.

The residential units will rise high above the building's amenities section, which will include NYC's largest infinity pool — 23 metres long — in addition to a 158-square-metre lobby with 5.5-metre ceilings, which will be centred around a sculpture by Anish Kapoor, still to be installed.

To be completed later this year, 56 Leonard Street is representative of the new face of Tribeca, and of Lower Manhattan generally, as the addition of more and more condo projects to the area demonstrates the ever-increasing pressures of housing costs and availability, especially within the trendy environs of Tribeca, home to the renowned Tribeca Film Festival, and within walking distance of SoHo, Wall Street, and the West Village.

SkyriseCites will be sure to return to this project as progress continues to develop. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, fee free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
