Calgary's downtown west end hasn't seen the same level of development activity as some other bustling neighbourhoods in the city, but that's beginning to change with Avenue, a two-tower condominium by Grosvenor Americas and Cressey Development Group. The 24- and 18-storey development is starting to make an impact on the skyline as it sprouts from the intersection of 5th Avenue and 10th Street SW.

Residents of the 319-unit riverfront condominiums will be able to utilize their balcony, patio, or terrace to take in the views of the Bow River to the north and west, the dense assemblage of buildings to the east, and the Rocky Mountains in the distance. Recreational and entertainment options are offered with the provision of a fitness centre in the east tower and a kitchen-equipped lounging area for parties and casual get-togethers in the west tower. A shared wash station looks to avoid messy paw and bike tracks leading to your unit.

The James Cheng-designed project incorporates a considerable amount of glass to allow plenty of natural light to pour into each unit. This softer architectural dialogue is contrasted with a harder outline of rich granite. At street level, the porte-cochère stands in the middle of the common podium, which hosts the two-level lobby and reception area. A limited selection of two-level townhomes with private outdoor patios finishes the ground level articulation.

Work on the four-level parkade completed in September, with the podium following shortly thereafter. The tower is now rising at a quick pace and each floor is being finished in about a week and a half. The building is expected to reach its 24-storey apex in the summer, but it's already making a noticeable visual impact in the neighbourhood.
