Capitol Hill in Seattle is one of the city's most vibrant nightlife and entertainment hotspots. Featuring a large assembly of eclectic bars, coffeehouses, restaurants, and performing arts venues, the prospect of living in this neighbourhood is within reach for many thanks to a number of upcoming residential projects. Just outside the periphery of this bustling bastion of arts and culture, developer Security Properties is constructing a 40-storey tower that seeks to reconnect Capitol Hill to the downtown core.
The Kinects Tower at 1823 Minor Avenue intends to enhance the public realm with retail and a 3,500-square-foot restaurant. The 357-unit building is slated to offer a wide selection of amenities for residents to enjoy including an enclosed rooftop swimming pool alongside outdoor observation decks and a relaxing lounge.
Designed by Bumgardner Architecture, three wall exposures slant outwards as the tower floors climb, maximizing the full potential of the site while also permitting larger suite sizes on the upper levels. With a height of 134 metres — or 440 feet — the project will make an immediate impact on the skyline. In fact, its ascending concrete skeleton has already profoundly altered the cityscape. Photos captured by Forum contributor SounderBruce show the canted faces of the building becoming apparent, as the first sign of aluminum and glass cladding begins installation on the bottom floors.
Security Properties is targeting LEED Silver certification and a 2017 completion date. When finished, Kinects Tower will share the Seattle skies with several highrises currently under development, including the mixed-use Tilt 49 and Midtown 21 office tower just steps away.
