Back in DecemberCity Ambassador harryc toured The John Buck Company's MILA when it was still under construction in Chicago. In the months since, the amenity spaces and rental units that were mostly concrete shells have been appointed with luxurious furnishings. A recent open house invited harryc back into the now-completed 41-storey building to get a glimpse of the interior's finished spaces.

Taking its name from the first two letters of the intersection where it sits at Michigan and Lake, the project offers retail frontages that add to the vibrant commercial and nightlife scene in America's third largest city. An elegantly lit double-height lobby welcomes residents, who will enjoy a number of hotel-like amenities, including maid and 24/7 room services.

Guests attending the open house event were treated to whiskey inside the spacious party room, which features several lounging nooks, a selection of reading material, and a large flat screen television.

An even larger television is located outside on the expansive urban garden, which hosts barbecue grill stations, a bar area, fire pits, an herb garden, a bocce ball court, and a dog run.

Additional indoor amenities include a games room, the MILA Social Lounge, and the kitchen-equipped MILA Skye Lounge. A fitness centre with state-of-the-art cardio and weight training equipment will tempt people to abandon their gym membership, while a rooftop pool and sundeck provide a relaxing space to take in the surrounding city views.

The 402 units feature gourmet kitchens with a stainless steel appliance package, quartz countertops and high gloss cabinetry. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow light to pour into every suite. Corner units are also afforded a balcony. Pictured above is a 540-square-foot studio, which uses its small space efficiently.

Luxury apartment units in Chicago are in high demand, and the prices reflect that reality. Studios in the bKL Architecture-designed building start at about $2,000 a month with the pictured two-bedroom suite fetching nearly $5,000.
