Calgary's historic East Village has become a focus of the city's infrastructural development in an effort to encourage Calgarians to move to and live in the bustling downtown neighbourhood. One of the more recent additions to the East Village cityscape is Evolution, a condo and townhouse development on the corner of 5th Street and Riverfront Avenue SE. Announced in 2010 and set to be completed this summer, Evolution is a two-phase luxury development offering a total of 474 units. The developer, Embassy Bosa, asked Calgarians for input on the name of the developments, and selected Evolution as the umbrella name with Fuse and Pulse as the phase names.

Phase One, Fuse, is made up of two buildings: a 21-storey highrise and an eight-storey mid-rise. They contain a total of 203 condo units with an average of 1,000 square feet per condo unit. Phase Two of Evolution, Pulse, contains select available homes in a 33-floor building with 271 homes, averaging 1,100 square feet per condo unit. The units range in price from $504,900 CAD to over $1,288,900. The condo units also include terraces for beautiful views of the Bow River and large floor-to-ceiling windows for views of the city below.

The price point of the units reflects the amenity-rich lifestyle that residents will be able to enjoy, with various fitness spaces, a steam room and sauna, a rooftop garden, a concierge service, and a multi-use lounge among others. Additionally, a large garden roof deck, outdoor barbecue, fire pit, and green landscaping will make for exciting social gatherings. There are nearby paths for walking, running, and biking, as well as important transit connections for convenience.

The project architect, James Cheng used a mix of brick, wood, and glass to reflect the structure's surrounding historic buildings while anticipating the urban development to come in the East Village. The ground level lobby area is made of red brick, and as the development rises skywards, the jutting terraces and large glass windows on the units give them an air of luxury. The construction of the exterior of Evolution is complete, with only interior work remaining. Once finished, lighting atop the towers in the shape of lanterns will celebrate completion.
