Before a building is officially completed and can go into service, a number of critical pieces of infrastructure need to be installed. Electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems are just some of the necessary interior components that work to create a functional building. Since these elements are located inside the structure, they're relatively easy for workers to access for maintenance purposes. Similarly, a building's exterior often requires service, which is performed with a dedicated building maintenance unit (BMU).

A BMU is a device, which can be automatic or remote controlled, that is mounted permanently on the roof of a structure. Suspended over the exterior, a BMU holds working platforms for crews to safely undertake activities like window washing and glass replacement. These platforms can move vertically and laterally via twin tracks, providing full coverage to every aspect of the building face. A rotating head ensures the platform remains parallel to the exterior at all points.
