Since our introductory story on the Manhattan West project back in January, progress at the three-building development by Brookfield Property Partners, designed via a collaboration between Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and SLCE Architects, has been moving along nicely. The 67-storey north office tower, 62-storey south residential tower, and re-cladding of the 1969-built pyramid structure on site, have each made visible progress.

Beginning with the 62-storey south residential tower (above and below), which topped off back in May, the project's signature reflective blue-tinted cladding now reaches more than two-thirds up the height of the tower. Once complete, the residential tower will be home to 844 units.

Moving over to the 1969-built pyramidal structure on site (below), the re-cladding of the formerly Brutalist cement-clad building is all but complete, with a transformation set to bring it in line with the rest of the development.

Eventually the re-clad building will contain 170,000 square feet of completely renovated and updated office space. Seen in context with the south residential tower (below), the pyramid will help anchor the three-part project.

Last but not least, progress at the site of the 67-storey north office tower has only just begun, with construction having just recently risen above grade. In the images below from mid-June, the structure can be seen within its surrounding context as the south residential tower rises in the background.

Once complete in 2019, the north office tower will contain an additional 500,000 square feet of LEED Gold certified office space, which will be leased to The Skadden law firm. The new tower will boast column-free floor plates with ceiling heights ranging from 13 to 16 feet, offering tenants and their employees a beautiful modern work environment.

All together, the Manhattan West project is set to become a signature piece of the rapidly developing Hudson Yards neighbourhood in New York, as depicted in the rendering of the finished product (below).
