As prospective buyers flow through the Encore Condominiums presentation centre and take a gander at their future living spaces, they'll also notice a large scale model that captures the exterior design of the 40-storey residential tower. To be built by Westrich Pacific, Encore will occupy a prime corner lot at 103rd Street and 102nd Avenue in the epicentre of Downtown Edmonton

Sales were launched last October to much fanfare. With lines snaking around the block, 154 of the project's 164 units were reserved during the event. Poised to become Edmonton's tallest all-residential tower, Encore's height translates to unobstructed views of the city. As the property is surrounded by a collection of historical buildings, the immediate view of the downtown cluster of highrises should remain relatively unchanged in the coming years.

The scale model gives us a closer look at the massing and materials presented by Dub Architects in a way the project renderings cannot fully capture. A three-storey brick-clad podium will welcome residents and guests to a lobby replete with hotel-like features, including a waterfall, marble walls, lounging areas, and concierge service. From the podium rooftop — which will be treated with a landscaped patio, barbecue stations, and a sun lounge — the triple-glazed tower erupts.

Two of the elevations host the balconies, while the remaining sides implement smoother surfaces of continuous glass. Adding visual interest while serving a functional purpose, the top levels are stepped back to accommodate swanky penthouse terraces. Fortunately, buyers won't have to wait too much longer to see movement on the site. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2016.
