The Cesar Pelli-designed Four Oaks Place office complex in Houston has a new neighbour. Transwestern is the developer behind the 30-storey addition at 1500 Post Oak Boulevard, which now serves as the modern headquarters of petroleum company BHP Billiton. Boasting a Pickard Chilton design, the tower forms a new focal point for the cluster of buildings in the immediate area with its contemporary glass figure.

Tenants and visitors to the building will be greeted by a spacious lobby that is naturally lit courtesy of its large perimeter panes of glass. The exterior is articulated by a delicate array of sunshades, breaking up the monotony of the glass facade while reducing heat gain from the strong Texas sun.

The structure consolidates BHP Billiton's United States employees — spread across Four Oaks Place, downtown Houston and Tulsa, Oklahoma — into one central facility. The company is the American subsidiary of the global natural resources giant based in Melbourne, Australia.

With the development substantially completed, tenants will enjoy access to a skybridge linking the older tower at 1360 Post Oak Boulevard, plus a landscaped rooftop garden atop the seven-level parking garage. Webcam images pointed at the development show that the company's branding has been installed at the top of the tower.
