Financial services company Northwestern Mutual is eagerly anticipating a 2017 completion date for their new headquarters, a striking glass tower that is climbing 32 storeys into the sky. Partnering with Hines as the acting development manager, the Wisconsin-based company is hoping the building will attract the next generation of young talent to Milwaukee

Over 550 feet tall, the tower just edges out 100 East Wisconsin to become the second tallest building in the state. The 32-storey tower will boast over one million square feet of near column-free flexible office space with underfloor air and floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The two-block-long Commons spans three storeys with room for a four-acre public outdoor space. Casual dining options exist not only to satiate your hunger but to pump new life into the public realm.

Northwestern Mutual's existing office stock on Mason and Van Buren Streets will be connected to the new complex by skywalks from the Commons Concourse. An open-concept two-storey employee dining hall will offer views of nearby parkland and Lake Michigan, while a fitness area encompasses the entire fifth floor. The panoramic views from the top floor will be available to all workers in the building, thanks to the provision of an open collaborative space and reservable conference and banquet rooms.

The Pickard Chilton-designed development — currently being enveloped by curtain wall glazing — is expected to add nearly 2,000 jobs to the downtown core when completed. With a long-standing presence in Milwaukee, Northwestern Mutual has added a new beacon to the skyline, cementing the city's pulsating urban renaissance.
