Following the recent demolition of a series of structures between 1205-27 Broadway, work has begun on what will soon be known as the Virgin Hotel, a 38-storey, 460-room tower from the LAM Group that is set to redefine the local streetscape. Rising on an entire block that was purchased for a combined $88 million along the iconic avenue from West 29th to West 30th Street, the VOA Associates-designed Virgin Hotel will soar 476 feet above ground level to become one of the tallest new structures in Manhattan's NoMad district.

The Virgin Hotel will rise above a massive 100,000-square-foot podium, the majority of which will be given over to retail, adding a significant amount of vibrancy to this relatively sleepy stretch of Broadway several blocks south of the bright lights and mega-crowds of nearby Times Square. The top of the podium will feature a large 12,000-square-foot outdoor space that is slotted to become the future patio and signature attraction of whatever dining option leases the space upon the tower's completion.

Seen below as the site appeared in 2013, the future home of the Virgin Hotel held three structures that once stood between 1205-27 Broadway. These have since been cleared away and the ground breaking for the new hotel took place in late 2015.

Captured over the last few months, the most recent image of the construction site from our Forum reveal the rate of progress on site, with work crews now moving onto the heavy work of excavation and shoring. Still in the early days of construction, the project is slated to be complete in late 2017.

Once complete, the Virgin Hotel will surely become a destination for tourists, shoppers, and diners alike, the impressive array of offerings on site to be a major draw for the area. Part of the ongoing transformation of Manhattan's NoMad district, the opening of the Virgin Hotel will continue the work of various other developments in the immediate area which have already begun to change the look and feel of this oft-overlooked neighbourhood.
