Excavation has begun for Vancouver's would-be tallest residential-only building at Burrard and Drake Streets. The 60-storey Burrard Place is being developed by Reliance Properties and The Jim Pattison Group, with IBI Group appointed as the project's lead architect. The development will create a formidable peak in the skyline, comparable in scale to Shangri-La and the newly completed Trump International Hotel and Tower.

Residents will have a choice between two highly curated colour schemes that will form the aesthetic of their units. Motion sensor lighting, light-filled bedrooms, and automated smart control systems heighten the living experience. The expansive Club One carries 30,000 square feet of top-notch amenities which are accessed by a skybridge. The sweeping space includes an outdoor dining and lounge area adjacent to a yoga studio. Nearly half of the full-floor amenities area is dedicated to a large fitness centre, which is separated from the lap pool by change rooms, lockers, and a private spa and wellness area.

The 60-storey residential tower — which marks the entrance to Vancouver's Beach District — will be augmented with a 13-storey office building hosting a flagship Jim Pattison Downtown Toyota dealership on the lower levels. The tower's variegated grid facade punctuates the abutting glazing panels in a distinctive architectural statement.

Digging has commenced at the site, image by Forum contributor mcminsen

Excavators have been spotted digging at the site following the removal of the sales centre and a pair of pre-existing houses. In a move to go green, building material from the homes may be salvaged and reused for other purposes. Given the site's preceding uses, the towering development will signal a dramatic change to the intersection's established built form.
