St. Michael's, an international consortium comprised of Jackson’s Row Development Partnership, Rowsley Ltd, Beijing Construction and Engineering Group (BCEGI), and Manchester City Council, is reimagining a block of buildings within the heart of Manchester's central business district. Former footballers Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs are two of the influential names attached to the project, which envisions a major mixed-use destination designed by Make Architects.

The 700,000-square-foot development would be anchored by two towers at 31 and 21 storeys in height. The tallest tower would host 153 apartments and a 200-bed five-star hotel, while the shorter building will contain 135,000 square feet of office space. Both buildings will utilize black aluminum cladding and culminate with an arched roofline.

The 14,000-square-foot St. Michael's Square — to link Albert Square and the Town Hall — will provide a high-quality public realm populated by kiosks and outdoor eating and drinking spaces. 'The Garden' offers 11,000 square feet of additional public space where diverse programming will take centre stage. To become a hub for live music, performances, and dining, the space will be topped by a retractable roof to ensure year-round use. St. Michael's Square and The Garden will be linked by 'The Steps,' a 15-metre-high architectural staircase surrounded by a water feature, seating areas, landscaping, and units for coffee shops and wine bars.

All the buildings currently located on the block will be demolished, including the Bootle Street police station, the United Reform Synagogue on Jackson's Row, and the Sir Ralph Abercromby pub. The synagogue and the bar are both expected to be replaced with new iterations. With the planning application submitted and approval anticipated by the end of the year, a spring 2017 start date is being targeted.
