World-renowned architects Perkins+Will have revealed their skyscraping scheme for 98 Fourteenth Street in Atlanta. The project has been proposed as the first phase of a masterplanned development that will form a crucial part of the Midtown Art Walk, an upcoming half-mile landscaped promenade stretching between key transit stations in the area.
The 74-storey mixed-use tower would contain 382 residential units and approximately 180 corporate suites above ground-level retail and an enclosed 11-level parking garage. At 280 metres (920 feet), the building will become the second tallest in Atlanta, falling behind the supertall Bank of America Plaza. Each symmetrical side of the structure is enveloped by panes of curtain wall glass.
The project's extensive list of amenities includes a full-floor sky lounge, conference rooms, an infinity-edge pool, top-notch fitness centre, children's play area, and private dining room. Residents and tenants will have access to Peachtree and 15th streets from an extended connection on the second level of the building, which promises to improve pedestrian circulation in the area.
Completion of the tower could come as early as 2019, so long as construction begins this fall. Pegged to become Atlanta's tallest addition to the skyline since 1992, the elegant simplicity of the building's flat roof would be a prominent deviation from the pyramidal crowns of the neighbouring skyscrapers.
