The team behind the 30-storey Hendrix building in Edmonton is bringing another highrise development to the city, this time at the corner of 124 Street NW and 102 Avenue NW. The proposed 85-metre project involves the careful dismantling of the north, south, and west facades of the existing Buena Vista building, which will be applied to the base of a 27-storey tower.

By Edgar Development, The MacLaren will house a wealth of commercial space behind the preserved historic facade. The 240-unit building will be serviced by four levels of underground parking comprising approximately 229 vehicular stalls.

A quasi-public courtyard will activate the frontage along 124 Street NW, while rooftop patios and outdoor amenity spaces provide a private gathering place for residents. According to the project renderings, part of the Dialog-designed glass tower's west elevation appears to implement brick cladding to mimic the facade of the existing building. The tower will also be set back from the street to limit any overwhelming presence it may have.

After a year's delay, demolition of the existing properties on the site, which also includes a rear three-storey commercial structure, is set to commence momentarily. If all goes smoothly from here on out, the apartment tower is expected to be completed in 2018.
