Located across the harbour from Vancouver's downtown core and the dense forests of Stanley Park, West Vancouver's strategic position between the water and the mountains yields some of the most beautiful scenery in an urban setting anywhere in the world. The Ambleside community is the epitome of west coast living: boutique shops, quaint restaurants, and vibrant markets line the street, while green space like Ambleside Park offers places for swimming, tennis, baseball, and relaxation. Steps away from this neighbourhood amenity, real estate developer Grosvenor has begun construction on a seven-storey waterfront development that aims to infuse new life into the cherished village-like local atmosphere.
To hold 98 unique residences, the James Cheng-designed Grosvenor Ambleside features a two-building terraced design that maximizes views and privacy. A glass-covered galleria connects the separated structures, which are prominently situated on the beachfront. The buildings will emphasize a west coast modern aesthetic through the use of concrete, steel, glass, natural stone, and timber accents.
Grosvenor has committed to making an engaging streetscape surrounding the development's ground-level retail offerings. Spaces for cultural presentations programmed by the Kay Meek Centre for the Performing Arts, where music and public art can flourish, are planned in company with cafes and shops. Work by artists Gordon Smith and Douglas Coupland — both recipients of the Order of Canada — will be featured.
The development's newly installed crane towers over its low- and mid-rise backdrop as below-grade work progresses. When the project completes in 2017, residents will enjoy a range of exceptional amenities that include a fitness centre, yoga studio, and multi-purpose lounge.
