The Pearl River Delta city of Zhuhai, which borders the world's largest gambling hub in Macau, will soon welcome a new mixed-use district developed by China Resources Land. Hong Kong-based 10 Design has won a competition for the 2.3-million-square-metre site, just before construction is expected to begin.
The numerous proposed office and hotel towers of Hengqin Wanxiang World will be centred around the development's focal point, Experience Central Square, where various cultural events and performances will be held. Combined with a diverse selection of retail spaces, the square is expected to become a prime commercial hub for the city. The project's skyscraping buildings are juxtaposed with several pedestrian-friendly routes and a central green belt that connects to a convention centre and waterfront promenades.
The development's energy requirements would be reduced by maximizing solid exterior facades, reducing light pollution in the process. Storm water run-off would be treated through bioswales and garden spaces. The development team has set aside 50 billion yuan for construction, which would spur approximately 50,000 new jobs in the region.
