Taiwan property developer Farglory Group is resuming work on their massive Maryah Plaza project in Abu Dhabi following a redesign aimed at making it more appealing and affordable to investors. Work had been halted on the site for 18 months while plans were rejigged, and resumes now with a tweaked design that should make the residences more marketable and competitive.

The major mixed-use development is located on Al Maryah Island, which lies adjacent to Abu Dhabi's downtown core. Much of the island remains an undeveloped desert landscape, but the government's Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 looks to change that. It outlines a 114-hectare transformation that would create a new international finance centre and business hub.

Maryah Plaza will mainly consist of residential and serviced apartments with associated commercial units, state-of-the-art gymnasiums, and infinity pools. A five-star hotel and a sprawling waterfront promenade are also in the works. The 153,000-square-metre development features a glass and steel design by famous British architect Lord Richard Rogers of Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners. It is his first project in the Middle East.
