Officials from The Kor Group joined other key project stakeholders in celebrating the official start of construction of the 32-storey Austin Proper Hotel and Residences. The 500,000 square-foot building at 202 Nueces Street will occupy the site of the former Thomas C. Green Water Treatment Plant, replacing industrial land use with 99 condominiums, 10 penthouses, and 244 hotel guest rooms.
The residences, situated atop hotel-occupied floors three to 11, will be supplemented by a suite of amenities designed to enhance the downtown core's live, work, and play atmosphere. A 12th floor heated pool will provide views of Lady Bird Lake and Shoal Creek, and a landscaped sundeck equipped with an outdoor kitchen gives residents the opportunity to show off their culinary skills. Hotel guests will also have access to shared amenities on the second, fourth and fifth floors, including an outdoor pool and sundeck, plus a fitness centre, serene spa, and conference facilities.
McGuire Moorman Hospitality has big plans to create specialized on-site dining destinations, including two restaurants, a coffee shop, a sunken bar, and a takeout spot. These conveniences boost the food and beverage options of the vibrant 2nd Street District, which features some of Austin's most popular shopping, dining, and entertainment spots.
The Handel Architects-designed building is registered LEED Gold and will incorporate dual-pane, energy-saving insulated glass, energy efficient LED lighting, and state-of-the-art home automation technology. If construction progresses smoothly, the complex will be completed in 2018.
