Portland's Pearl District is adding another mid-rise residential building to its growing collection, as Couch9 climbs at the corner of NW Couch Street and NW 9th Avenue. The 11-storey structure will contain over 5,000 square feet of ground-level retail space and 137 residences broken down into studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom layouts.

Built by Urban Asset Advisors, two underground parking levels will serve the site while an amenities deck complete with a rooftop terrace, clubroom, and fitness area populate the 11th floor. The development replaces two auto body garages and a small surface parking lot.

Designed by Vallaster Corl Architects, the building's stacked, protruding, and inset balconies will be stylized with a colourful gradient of perforated metal panels, while the remaining portions of the facade employ glass and zinc cladding. A recent photo update shows crews working on the fourth floor of the building, which should be ready for residents in 2017.
