Currently known as the International Plaza, a recent proposal has been put forward by Lee & Associates for a 25-storey hotel, office, and retail tower in central Atlanta. The project has the potential to transform a long-standing parking lot which currently takes up the majority of a city block within a prime downtown location.

Proposed as a mixed-use development, the $75 million project will be comprised of a dual-branded hotel operated jointly with Skybar, along with ample space left over for 50,000 square feet of retail space, and the potential for office use to be determined in the future. The retail and entertainment portion will include restaurants, retailers, a health club, coffee shop, and a Skybar Rooftop Lounge.

If built, the International Plaza will replace one of several remaining surface lots in the area. This corner of downtown Atlanta is still realizing its full potential in terms of this type of higher density development. Below, the site can be viewed as it appears today, with a small low-rise Hertz rental franchise located adjacent to a large parking lot.

Once complete, the International Plaza will represent Atlanta's ongoing construction boom, as the formerly car-centric city gives way to a much denser, more urban metropolis.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
