In the shadow of the London Eye, a vibrant mixed-use quarter is emerging, bringing together an assemblage of architects under the masterplanned vision of Squire and Partners. Developed by Canary Wharf Group and the Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company, the under-construction project will inject multiple buildings into the precinct immediately around the Shell Tower, a historic anchor that will be spruced up with ground-level landscaping and open spaces.

A diverse offering of retail and restaurants will be woven throughout the landscape and converge on Casson Square, the development's central meeting, greeting, and dining space. A 10-storey stone office building by Squire and Partners, One Southbank Place, will occupy the southeast corner of the site. The neighbouring structure named Two Southbank Place will feature a substantially different Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates design, with a 16-level glassy envelope and winter garden amenity space inside.

A significant residential component will bring a 24/7 liveliness to the area through several distinct towers. Two developments will flank the Shell Tower at its north and south sides. Belvedere by Stanton Williams will host 108 apartments across 13 floors, while two buildings of 20 and 10 storeys comprise Belvedere Gardens by GRID Architects. There will also be an additional three major residential towers arranged around Casson Square. Four Casson Square is set to house 236 units within a 28-storey Patel Taylor-designed tower and a pair of buildings at One and Thirty Casson Square will climb 36 and 28 floors.

There will be numerous amenities exclusive to occupants of the several anticipated residential towers, including a health and fitness club which comes equipped with an infinity pool, gymnasium, and treatment rooms. As construction progresses, London Eye riders have a perfect overview of the site. Forum contributor Daveography recently captured the activity from one of the capsules, showing the rise of Belvedere Gardens and One Southbank Place.
