The Chicago-area community of Oak Park now has a new tallest apartment building. As Golub & Company and Wood Partners near completion on their 21-storey Vantage Oak Park project, an open house on September 20 invited potential renters inside for a look at the elegantly appointed units and amenity spaces. City Ambassador harryc was on hand for the tour, capturing the interiors along the way.

Located at the corner of Forest Avenue and Lake Street, the building puts residents in the midst of Oak Park's hottest attractions and services. The Frank Lloyd Wright-Prairie School of Architecture Historic District and the Chicago "L" rapid transit network are steps away. The 270 units will provide luxury homes for another infusion of residents looking for a more suburban lifestyle still within reach of Chicago's busy core.

With snacks and beverages fuelling prospective residents' trek through the freshly ordained spaces, staged apartments gave visitors a glimpse of what the Vantage lifestyle offers. Ranging in price from $1,332 per month for a 486-square-foot studio to $3,070 for a two-bedroom apartment with a den, suites are defined by wide plank flooring, Whirlpool stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, floor-to-ceiling windows, and in some units, balconies and terraces. The in-demand units along Lake Street, originally pitched as townhomes, have already been spoken for.

These contemporary residences are matched by a collection of amenity spaces that includes a rooftop terrace with grills and a fire pit, a fitness centre, and several lounge and meeting spaces. An attached 588-space parking garage provides more than enough vehicular accommodations for residents and guests.

Plans for the Gensler-designed development arose following the 2008 financial collapse, which killed an earlier proposal for a 19-storey hotel on the site. The finished project was unveiled in 2011, five years before completion.
