Since topping off at this time last year, progress has been moving along nicely at 101 West 28th Street, the 32-storey Hyatt House Hotel currently that is now nearing completion. Developed by Lexin Capital, the Nobutaka Ashihara-designed Hyatt House Hotel and Residence will soon open its doors to those seeking accommodation within close proximity to Chelsea in Manhattan

The hotel will offer 150 guest rooms and apartment-style suites spread across 30 floors, with the top floors reserved for mechanical uses and amenity spaces including a rooftop fitness centre. The tower's exterior blends reflective glass with opaque white cladding, marking a departure from both the typical hotel and condo typologies.

At 300 feet, the Hyatt House Hotel will fit in well at location that has experienced a burst of highrise intensification in recent years. At ground level, 101 West 28th Street will feature 1,700 square feet of retail space, which will serve the corner of 6th Avenue and 28th Street and go a long way towards mitigating the streetscape void often created when hotel or condo lobbies are placed in an area with high pedestrian traffic.

With work yet to be done on the top mechanical level as well as within the tower, podium, and retail and public components at the base, it will still be a few more months until the Hyatt House opens its doors to guests. The completion date has been set for late 2016 or early 2017.

Once complete, the Hyatt House Hotel will be a welcome addition to Chelsea. Its prime location sits on the cusp of Midtown and the Flatiron District, and will likely be a draw for visitors looking to be within easy striking distance to many of New York City's most famous attractions, including the Empire State Building, Macy's, and Times Square.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
