The world's tallest building, Dubai's Burj Khalifa, was designed by Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill Chicago. In the years since that career-defining achievement, the visionary architect departed SOM offices with peers Gordon Gill and Robert Forest, forging their own successful practice in 2006 that has quickly gained a reputation for imaginative and sustainable design. Their expertise and ambitious concepts have brought them to Jeddah, where Adrian Smith is outdoing himself in designing the next tallest building in the world. But the firm is now swapping desert landscapes with breezy beaches, having been recently appointed to a property fronting Biscayne Bay in Miami, where OKO Group — itself rapidly becoming a household name in the city's development scene — is planning a 47-storey luxury condominium development.

The new tower would be sited at 175 SE 25th Road where an 11-storey residential complex currently stands. That building will be demolished to permit its soaring successor, which, according to the official press release, will "leverage the features that bring people to Miami, namely expansive views, access to sun, and an indoor-outdoor lifestyle."

Vladislav Doronin, Chairman and CEO of OKO Group, has amassed a portfolio boasting some of the largest projects in Europe. Moscow's OKO complex, which contains the second tallest building on the continent, was completed by the Doronin-founded Capital Group. "Over the last two and a half decades I have built some of the tallest skyscrapers in Europe; a great synergy exists between Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill architects and OKO Group." said Doronin. "This project, OKO Group’s second in our one billion dollar pipeline of projects in Miami, further demonstrates our commitment to the City and the people of South Florida. I am personally looking forward to working closely with AS+GG as we transform the South Brickell skyline."

The project at 175 SE 25th Road would mark the second residential development for OKO Group in Miami, following the 57-storey Missoni Baia in the Edgewater neighbourhood. Since the architect has just been announced, no renderings of the development are yet available.
