Midtown Atlanta, home of Georgia Tech, is soon to get a brand new 257-unit residence building, courtesy of the college, which will have room for up to 750 students. The project will inject a current of fresh young minds into the immediate vicinity, where the local streetscape has long been in need of redevelopment. Until recently the location of a sleepy stretch of low-rise commercial structures from the 1940s, what will become The Standard will offer its inhabitants an impressive array of amenities in a bid create a positive and creative environment for students during their years of study.

With demolition well underway, the site will soon be clear for excavation. The Standard is set to take up an entire block of Spring Street between 3rd and 4th Streets. Located just a few blocks from campus, the new residence will be a high-demand property, with onsite amenities including a gym, sauna, games room, clubhouse, and rooftop terrace.

While the long list of amenities is impressive in its own right, perhaps the single most extraordinary feature of The Standard will be the inclusion of a full-service drive-thru Starbucks, incorporated directly into the base of the structure. Equipped with vehicular entry and exit points on 4th Street and Spring Street respectively, the cleverly positioned franchise will also include ample indoor and outdoor seating, keeping the 750 resident students well caffeinated while giving a certain boost to local business.

Beyond the allure of a lifestyle of lattes and dips in the pool, residents will also find a large study room and computer lab onsite. The Georgia Tech residence will be fully equipped with high speed WiFi throughout the building in a move that will put less pressure on the resident Starbucks, which of course will also be open to the general public.

Set for occupancy by the fall of 2018, The Standard will be a welcome addition not only to Georgia Tech, but to the broader Midtown Atlanta community and neighbourhood, an area that is currently undergoing a time of heavy redevelopment and urban growth.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
